National Rum Day

Happy National Rum Day

Today in honor of National Rum Day, how about we declutter that bar cart. You can only own so many swizzle sticks and toothpicks. Use up the bar napkins and pare down your collection of coasters. Rethink the three-year-old jar of olives and half empty bottle of grenadine.

Hint: Rum Doesn’t Last Forever (neither do maraschino cherries)

Most manufacturers say that once opened, bottles of alcohol are best used up within six months. Always check with the manufacture’s website to confirm the best used by date. You can also look up good by dates at StillTasty.

Glassware

How many cocktail glasses do you need to have out at one time? They get dusty and take up space. If you are not making drinks or entertaining that much, then maybe you can donate some, least pack them away, or tuck them in a less convenient cabinet.

My Favorite Drink

While I am not a big fan of drinks with alcohol in them I do love a mocktail. My favorite is a twist on the utterly refreshing Mojito. If you like lime and mint then this might become your favorite too. I muddle mint leaves in the bottom of a pint glass. Then I fill the glass with crushed ice and fill with limeade. Sometimes I squeeze a fresh wedge of lime in as well.
