Mom’s best trail mix recipe

My Mom made the best trail mix. Her recipe includes candy coated chocolate (M & Ms) and raisins and golden raisins. If you like trail mix, give this recipe a try. Of course, adjust this for personal preferences, allergies, and restrictions. And you get to pick salted, unsalted, or honey roasted nuts. If nuts are not your thing, you can still make the mix without them. Sub in extra dried fruit or something else. The good news is, there is no wrong way to make a trail mix. The only question is, once you mix it, where are you going to eat it? Maybe it will be your snack while taking on an overdue decluttering task today. Just a thought.

Mom’s recipe

Into a large sealable container or zip top bag, mix:

  1. 1 cup sunflower seeds
  2. 1 cup peanuts
  3. 1 cup cashews
  4. 1 cup peanut butter or butterscotch chips
  5. 1 cup M&Ms
  6. 1 cup raisins (I do half and half golden)

optional mix-ins:

  1. cereal like Chex or Cheerios
  2. shredded coconut
  3. dried fruit(s)
  4. white chocolate chips
  5. mixed nuts
  6. mini pretzels
Hint!

Place the ingredients into a muffin tin, one item per cup. Then let people make their own customized blend. Hint: mine would be mostly chocolate.

3 things to declutter from your pantry on national trail mix day

1. Stale, never going to finish, open containers of snacks.

2. Packaging from around products that is just taking up valuable storage space

3. Old spices, especially ones with no scent when you run a little between your fingers. No scent usually indicates no flavor.
